2017 Julien Duport ‘La Boucheratte’ Côte de Brouilly

$48

Serious and complex, with notes of dark cherry, pepper, crushed gravel, olives, and grilled meat.

Julien Duport is a fourth-generation winemaker, although his parents weren’t vignerons. Today Julien works 4 hectares of Brouilly, 4 of Côte de Brouilly, plus ‘a little’ Beaujolais Villages. His vines are mainly on the hillside with its blue stone terroir. Boucherattes is the cuvée de garde here – planted in 1885 by his grandfather, just after phylloxera, and is 130 years old! The wine is aged 18 months in large barrique after fermentation in cement. Julien likens the tones this wine takes on with age to a Chambolle-Musigny.
