The ultimate summer quencher. A blend of Trollinger, Zweigelt, Spätburgunder and Portugieser, full of vibrant red fruit including Rainier cherry and wild strawberry, along with a touch of musky melon, a hint of bitter orange peel, and a streak of chalky minerality.

Before starting his 10-hectare family winery in the municipality of Kernen im Remstal, 11km east of Stuttgart, in Southwest Germany, Jochen Beurer was a European BMX Champion. Looking beyond his own vineyards, Jochen created a platform in 2001 for quality-focused, young growers to exchange ideas, Junges Schwaben (Young Swabians) now includes more than 24 local wine growers. For his own vines, the transition towards organic farming began in 2003 and all his vineyards were certified organic in 2009 (EcoVin) and biodynamic in 2012. One of Jochen’s recent projects is among his most ambitious. The goal of the Wengert vineyard (shown in the title image) is the preservation of regionally endangered medieval grape cultivars (Heunisch, Räuschling, Frühroter Malvasier, Gelber Orleans, Gewürztraminer, Veltliner Rosa, Scheuchner, Portugieser, Urban, Affentaler among others). The project is a wide-ranging communal and collaborative effort, as well as a showcase for respectful viticulture, allowing local flora and fauna to thrive.
