2019 Peter Wetzer SAG field blend
The light nose reveals waxy, floral, and some tropical aromas. In the mouth, there is a moderate honeyed mouthfeel, a little wood spice throughout along with supportive acidity
Peter Wetzer grew up in a winemaking family and In 2007, he purchased five different vineyards around the town of Sopron, in the northwest part of Hungary. Sopron was formerly the capital of Burgenland. He believes in minimal intervention in the vines, all grapes are hand-harvested, and the vineyards are all fermented separately.
Hungary is dotted with small volcanic ”plugs” and Sag-Hegy is one of them. The wine gets its name from the vineyards where the fruit is sourced from on the Sag-Hegy volcano which has soils of black earth, basalt, and tuffa. This wine is a blend of 60% Olaszrizling (known as Welschriesling in Austria) and 40% Gemischter Satz (Gemischter Satz is a field-blend of different white varietals which are grown together in the vineyard) from 100-year-old vineyards.
